In essence we want to reduce the number of seperate requests between the server and the browser. We also want to reduce the size of these requests.

1. We create lightweight sites which use a minimal amount of JS, CSS and image files. 2. We reduce the number of requests for different CSS files and JS files by combining as many of these files together as possible (reducing requests through combination of files). 3. We are reducing the number of requests for images by creating one image which combines all of them into one and using CSS sprites. 4. We remove any extra plugins (to reduce the number of images, CSS files and JS files they add to the site). 5. We are compressing the data required so that it is smaller in size (and thus faster to transport).
